7/14/16: Heritage Museums & Gardens Sandwich, MA

As I mentioned in my post on The Adventure Park at Heritage Museums & Gardens after we climbed the ropes courses there we headed to the Heritage Museums & Gardens and had a lovely visit.  This lovely location in Sandwich MA is a great place to visit when you are in Cape Cod.  There is so much to see there for adults and children alike.
All photos taken at the Heritage Museums & Gardens
My son and husband love to look at cars so we started in the Automobile Exhibit Driven to Collect.
This collection is in a beautiful building which is a reproduction of the Round Stone Barn at Hancock Shaker Village.
Look at how gorgeous it is on the inside.
This building houses Heritage’s permanent collection of antique and classic automobiles.  The cars are extraordinary to look at.  We spent about a half hour exploring this building's 1st and 2nd floor.
Then we headed outdoors.  It was a beautiful day that was not too hot and not too cold so it was lovely to walk around the gardens.  The kids loved this little area.
We had fun spotting frogs on the lily pads.
As we explored there were beautiful flowers to see.  Here is a sampling.
This tree was one of my favorite things to look at.  My picture doesn't do it justice.  It was gorgeous.
Here is the Natural Threads art exhibit.
We headed to the CUT! Costume and the Cinema exhibit next.  This exhibit runs until October and allows you to view some of the beautiful fashion and style of costumes from the movies.
This building houses 43 costumes.
Costumes worn by stars including Scarlett Johansson, Kate Winslet, Julie Christie, Maggie Smith, Heath Ledger, Ralph Fiennes Randy Quaid, Minnie Driver, Jude Law, Robert Downey, Jr., Keira Knightley and more are included.
Absolutely beautiful.
I love that there were back drops to match the costumes shown.
There is even a 1908 Charles Looff Carousel that kids can ride as much as they want.
Of course my kids took a ride.
I loved the horses on this carousel.  So beautiful.
This building also houses The Heritage Collection.  This collection highlights art and artifacts from Heritage’s collection of 12,000+ items in a fresh new display.
There are beautiful paintings, rare objects, and the famed military miniatures. J.K. Lilly, III founded Heritage Museums & Gardens in honor of his father, J.K. Lilly, Jr., who spent a lifetime amassing great collections of rare books, coins and stamps, as well as American firearms and military miniatures.
Last but not least was an area my kids especially enjoyed.  This is Hidden Hollow.
This area has places for kids to explore and experience nature.  They can make a fort.
They can also head up to a beautiful tree house.
Plus play beautiful music.
I highly suggest visiting the Heritage Museums & Gardens.

this all looks marvelous! However I was looking for the Sandwich museum that we visited over 25 years ago while on our annual Cape Cod summer holiday. We stayed in Chatham however our family loved exploring the many wonderful towns and villages, museums, and grave yards- we still have some of the rubbings we made—So many wonderful memories!! The Museum, I think it was a vintage doll & toy collection?!? It may also had Vintage Sandwich glass glass-
We purchased a vintage doll for our daughter that had a leather body.
I took it to a doll hospital when we returned home to New York.
Jennifer, our now grown daughter still has the beautiful
